First RV trip, to Presqu'ile Provincial Park

The Rookie RV Adventure

Some journeys are about the destination. This one was about every mistake we made getting there.

Our family's inaugural recreational vehicle expedition through Ontario — from Toronto to Presqu'ile Provincial Park — was equal parts chaos and joy.

The Rig

We rented a Jayco Greyhawk Class C unit through RVezy. It came equipped with a queen bed, over-cab bunk, and full kitchenette — plus a bathroom. Everything four people need to feel simultaneously cramped and free.

Lessons Learned the Hard Way

Lesson 1: Check the water tank.

We performed a "manual water filling" operation before entering the park. Pro tip: ask the owner how full the tank is before pickup. Save yourself the gas station garden hose experience.

Lesson 2: Don't run the generator on hookups.

We activated the generator while already connected to campground electrical hookups. The resulting noise was... educational. Critical learning moment about vehicle compatibility.

Lesson 3: Propane is your friend (once you figure it out).

Mastering propane systems, refrigerator settings, and tank monitoring took us approximately one full day of trial and error.

The Good Parts

Packing was like solving a spatial puzzle. Disposing of grey and black water tanks at park facilities proved manageable with basic sanitation protocols (and strong stomachs).

But the sunsets over Lake Ontario? The kids falling asleep to cricket sounds? The morning coffee brewed in a parking lot? Unbeatable.

For First-Timers

Ontario provincial parks are perfect for your first RV trip. The Jayco Greyhawk Class C is forgiving for beginners. Check out RVezy or RVShare for rentals.

Embrace the mistakes. They become the stories.

Here's to laughter, learning, and Lake Ontario sunsets.
